WhatsApp CEO and Co-Founder Jan Koum in an emotional Facebook post revealed that he is leaving Facebook.
Reports cited that this sudden emotional decision came after clashing with Facebook over data privacy which has been the core of WhatsApp.
Facebook bought WhatsApp in 2014 for $19 billion in cash and stock. WhatsApp uses encryption and doesn’t push ads in its service.
When Facebook acquired WhatsApp, Koum wrote that the deal wouldn’t have happened if WhatsApp “had to compromise on the core principles that will always define our company, our vision and our product”.
Brian Acton, the other Co-Founder of WhatsApp left the company late last year and recently tweeted #deletefacebook on Twitter when Cambridge Analytica issue hit Facebook.
