Samsung Galaxy J5 users will now get Android 8.1 Oreo update

Samsung is rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo update for Samsung Galaxy J5 users in the market. According to a report by SamMobile, this new update comes just weeks after the company rolled out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) users in the market. This update comes with version number J530FXXU2BRH5 and interested Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) users can head to the software update section in their Settings app to check for the update.

Samsung Galaxy J5 was launched with Android 7.0 Nougat in the market and it has now directly jumped to Android 8.1 Oreo. According to the report, this is the first Android 8.1 Oreo-based update that Samsung has rolled out in the market. The update is currently being rolled out in a phased manner which means that it is likely that it may not appear on your Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) right away. The reason for this is because the company wants to make sure that there are no serious device crippling bugs in the software that the software developers and internal testers may have missed.

In case of a serious bug, Samsung can easily stop the update without the issue taking down almost all the Galaxy J5 (2017) available in the market. The report also points out that users in Poland who have not received the update can download the firmware file to manually update their devices.

This comes just a day after the company launched its first Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) powered smartphone in the market, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core.
